Storage and privacy
Where your work is saved, what stays private, what the developer can see, and how saving conflicts are handled.
Where your work is saved
Your skins and builds are saved automatically on genMC's server, privately. Without an account, a secure browser cookie identifies them as yours: there is no password and nothing else to remember. If you clear this cookie, or browse in a private window, the work of that browser is no longer reachable – unless you signed in (Accounts and sign-in) or saved an export.
Each skin and each build has its own private workspace: content, marks, requests, palette and history.
What stays private
- Your skins and builds, their history, marks and requests, until you publish or share them.
- Published copies contain only the result – never the history, messages or marks.
- Exports contain the result only (and, for skin PNGs, an invisible provenance marker; see Import, export and renderings).
- Minecraft files you choose for textures (client JAR, resource pack) are read on your device and never uploaded. Load textures in the offer on your first visit and Load from Minecraft.net in the settings connect your browser directly to Mojang's servers, which see your IP address; this only happens when you click one of them.
Photos you attach
Photos attached to a request are uploaded so the agent can see them, and are shown with the request.
What the developer sees
- Statistics are first-party and cookieless: page views, downloads and agent use are counted without tracking you across sites.
- Accounts show no e-mail address: it is stored only as a one-way hash, so not even the developer can read it. Others see only your username.
- Feedback you send goes to the developer's private inbox with the current page path (without query or share keys). No build contents or screenshots are attached. Add a reply e-mail only if you want an answer; messages are deleted after 12 months.
Details: the privacy policy.
Download or delete your data
Open Settings → Privacy:
- Download saves everything stored for you as a JSON file: skins, the list of your builds, gallery posts, likes and city worlds. Download the blocks of a build from the build itself (Export, import and Minecraft).
- Delete… removes your skins, builds, city worlds and gallery posts – and, when signed in, your account. You confirm once more; it cannot be undone. Afterwards the browser starts fresh.
Without an account, both apply to the work of this browser.
When two tabs save at once
Each save names the version it is based on. If another tab or device saved in between, your save is refused instead of overwriting the other change. The studio then offers Save a copy so your local work is kept as a new document. Open tabs pick up newer saves automatically when they are idle.
Limits per browser
Up to 1,000 skins and 1,000 builds per browser owner, plus up to 200 builds joined through secret links. See Limits.
