Import, export and renderings
Import a PNG or a player's skin, export the Minecraft PNG, render images, and what the invisible marker in exports is.
Import
The chevron next to New skin offers Upload PNG and From player name; Menu → Import skin opens the same dialog with both ways in:
- PNG file – a 64 × 64 skin, or a legacy 64 × 32 skin, which is converted to a 64 × 64 Classic skin automatically.
- Player name – a Minecraft Java player name (3–16 letters, digits or underscores). genMC loads that player's current skin and chooses Classic or Slim automatically. If the official Minecraft services are unavailable, a public profile cache is used and the dialog says that the skin may be older.
Every import opens as a new private skin, ready to remix. Your previous skin stays in the skin switcher.
Export the skin
Open the arrow next to Publish in the header and choose Export skin. It downloads the skin as a 64 × 64 PNG, exactly as Minecraft expects it. To use it in Minecraft Java, open the Minecraft Launcher → Skins → New skin, choose the file and the matching model (Classic or Slim).
Export a rendering
Menu → Export rendering saves a picture of the character instead of the texture – for thumbnails, posts or a portfolio. Choose the view (front, back, the character's left or right, or perspective), the size and a transparent, light or dark background.
The marker in exported files
Exported PNGs carry a small, invisible provenance marker (MSDP v2): a server-signed record with a creation time, model and content hash, hidden in texture pixels that Minecraft never shows, at almost zero opacity. No visible pixel changes. It is easy to remove or copy, so it does not prove ownership or AI authorship – it is a label, not a lock.
Publishing
To share a skin with everyone, publish it to the gallery. See Gallery, publishing and secret links.
