First steps

Make your first skin and your first build, connect an agent and take the result into Minecraft – in ten minutes.

This walkthrough takes you through the essentials. Nothing here needs an account.

1. Paint a skin

  1. genMC opens in the build studio. Switch to Skins in the header (or open /skin). An unpainted grey figure opens in 3D.
  2. Pick Pencil (P) in the dock at the bottom and a color from the swatch next to it.
  3. Click or drag on the character to paint. Drag beside the model to rotate it, scroll or pinch to zoom.
  4. Use ⌘ Z (Windows: Ctrl Z) to undo.
  5. Open the arrow next to Publish in the header and choose Export skin to download the skin as a Minecraft PNG.

Details: Painting and colors.

2. Start a build

  1. Switch to Builds in the header (or open /build).
  2. Choose New build next to the build's name and give it a name. It starts as an empty plot.
  3. Look around: drag to rotate the view, use W A S D to fly, scroll to zoom.

Blocks are placed by your agent or imported from a file; you guide it with marks and requests. Details: Build studio basics.

3. Connect an agent

  1. Look at the agent column on the right: while no agent is connected, it shows a pairing code like K7Q-4MX. (If it is hidden, choose Connect agent – the link icon – in the column's header.)
  2. Choose Copy code and prompt and paste it into your agent's chat (Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex …).
  3. The first time, add genMC to your agent as described under First time? Add genMC to your agent in the same panel.
  4. Once connected, the header shows the agent. Tell it what you want, for example: "Build a small stone watchtower with a spiral staircase."

Details: Connect an agent.

4. Guide the agent

  • Mark (M) the area you mean before you send a request. The agent receives your marks with the request.
  • Type follow-up requests into the agent column; they queue until the agent picks them up.
  • When you are happy, choose Finish. The agent stops editing until you send a new request.

Details: Requests, marks and Finish.

5. Take it into Minecraft

  • Skins: upload the exported PNG in the Minecraft launcher's skin settings.
  • Builds: open the arrow next to Publish → Export, as .schem for WorldEdit or as .mcfunction for a datapack. See Export, import and Minecraft.
