Build studio basics

Projects, the growing plot, the full Java block library, textures and how you and your agent share the work.

The build studio at /build is where structures are made – from a garden shed to a mountain city. Your agent places the blocks; you direct, mark, inspect and refine.

Projects

  • Every build is a private project with its own address /build/<id>, history and requests. It saves automatically.
  • New build (next to the build's name and status, in the build switcher or the menu) asks for a name and starts an empty plot. Middle-click or ⌘/Ctrl-click opens the new build in a new tab. /build/new always starts a new build.
  • The switcher next to the name searches all your builds, shows builds Shared with you and lets you delete your own builds or leave shared ones.
  • Click the name to rename the build.

While an agent is connected to the tab, a new build opens in a new tab so the agent keeps working on its own build.

The plot

There is no fixed size. A build starts at the origin as 48 × 32 × 48 blocks and grows automatically as soon as blocks are placed outside. Coordinates are whole numbers: X points east, Y up and Z south. Technical limits are 768 blocks per axis and 10 million placed blocks per build (see Limits).

Blocks

The library contains every block of Minecraft Java 26.3 – 1,286 block IDs – including block states such as oak_stairs[facing=east,half=top]. Stairs, slabs, fences, walls, doors, beds and panes connect and orient like in the game.

Your agent searches the library by look, not just by name: every block carries tags for colour, texture, material and style (for example white, calm, wood, nordic), its average texture colour and the Java version it first appeared in. A request like “pale Nordic wood” therefore also finds newer blocks such as pale oak, even if the agent's model was trained before they existed.

Textures

Menu → Settings → Block textures chooses how blocks look:

  • genMC – genMC's own textures, made for this studio (a first set and Vanilla 16, close to the original).
  • Minecraft · from your game – click Load from Minecraft.net in the settings, or choose your own Minecraft client JAR or a resource pack ZIP. Load from Minecraft.net lets your browser read the block textures straight from Mojang's official client download (about 5 MB, once); genMC never hosts game files. Everything is read on your device only; nothing is uploaded or stored on the server, and the textures are not part of exported builds. Afterwards they load from this browser's cache. Until they are loaded, genMC Vanilla 16 is shown. On your first visit a small offer in the bottom-left corner of the view loads them with one click (Load textures) or keeps Vanilla 16 (Cancel).

Who does what

genMC has no built-in AI. The geometry comes from your connected agent or from an imported JSON file. You:
